We are delighted that the Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice (CNSGP) will bring general practitioners (GPs) in line with their hospital colleagues.
From today (1 April 2019) everyone working in general practice will be automatically covered in relation to NHS services.
With a shared ambition to deliver a scheme that is both fair and effective, we have worked closely with colleagues from the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, the British Medical Association and the Royal Colleges to establish scheme rules and scope.
The CNSGP is centrally funded, meaning that those working in general practice do not need to make any payments to benefit from indemnity. There is also no formal membership or other registration requirements for either individuals or practices/organisations.
The Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice (CNSGP) provides us with a unique opportunity to bring information on claims from both general practice and secondary care under one roof, so that we can share what is learnt for the benefit of all patients and those who care for them.

Today also sees the launch of the dedicated claims helpline for GPs and those working in general practice operating 24/7, 365 days a year.
