On 26 February 2025, we sent all trusts a letter giving an overview of the revised Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS) guidance for year 7. Full guidance for year 7 of the MIS was published on 2 April 2025.
We have worked with the Safety Action Leads to maintain a consistent approach, while ensuring that the requirements continue to contribute to improved outcomes for women and families accessing perinatal services.
We have kept the way the MIS document is presented consistent to support navigation and clarity. We hope this will make it easier to focus on the requirements of the safety standards in the scheme.
In line with the previous year, the MIS document has been published with an accompanying audit/compliance tool. It is not mandatory to use this tool, but we hope trusts will find it helpful. The tool has been developed for your internal use only and is not intended for submission to NHS Resolution. It will allow trusts to track progress with the actions and record when supporting evidence has been approved and where it is saved.
Following the publication of the guidance, on 28 April 2025 a free, online event will provide a crucial update on the scheme’s changes and feature a range of expert speakers dedicated to supporting maternity (and perinatal) safety. Although the event is now fully booked, recordings of the day will be accessible on our website after the event.
