Attendees praise Primary Care Appeals training workshops

Date published:

Our Primary Care Appeals service recently delivered two online training workshops, on the resolution of primary care dental services disputes, for NHS England regional dental commissioning teams and integrated care boards, with observers from the British Dental Association in attendance.

Drawing on decades of experience being responsible for the fair resolution of disputes between contract holders (GPs, dentists, optician and pharmacists) and NHS England and/or ICBs, Primary Care Appeals covered topics in the workshops on:

  • good practice in local dispute resolution;
  • the fundamentals of decision making, including:
  • the application of discretion by decision makers;
  • how to respond to a dispute referred to Primary Care Appeals; and
  • the service’s approach in managing and adjudicating on disputes.

The workshops were set up in response to a request from the NHS England Policy Team and were attended by sixty delegates. The workshops were praised by those who attended, who rated the overall content 4.6 out of a total of 5.

Praise and feedback from attendees of the workshops were centred around the helpfulness of the content covered and attendees claimed to feel more confident after the training. They also voiced a commitment to ensuring that decisions they deliver are fair and transparent.

I will ensure that all decisions are consistent transparent and fair and fully explained.

I will feel more confident in my approach to any disputes which may arise in the future.

Very informative session and I have already shared information with commissioning and contract managers within the team. Information gleaned will be a useful reference point when any cases reach this stage.
