The Assessment and Remediation (A&R) team in Practitioner Performance Advice (Advice) is on course to complete approximately 100 assessments and action plans in 2024–25.
While clinical performance assessments are stable, there has been steady and sustained growth in behavioural assessments and action plans, reflecting a shift in the type of support NHS organisations are seeking. Behavioural assessments provide independent evaluations of practitioners’ behaviours and relationships, aiding organisations in managing concerns without disciplinary action. PSR action plans are tailored interventions designed to address clinical performance or behavioural issues, supporting practitioners in achieving safe, effective, and sustained practice.
This increase in behavioural casework aligns closely with NHS England’s broader workforce priorities, including the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan (2023), which emphasises supporting staff, improving workplace culture, and strengthening leadership. By delivering timely assessments and PSR action plans, the Advice team contributes to creating safer, more supportive working environments, a key aim of NHS Resolution’s corporate strategy (2022–2025), particularly in supporting safer healthcare and resolving concerns fairly.
Reaching this target reflects the growing recognition across the NHS of the value of early, proactive interventions to manage behavioural risks and foster professional development. It also demonstrates the A&R team’s ability to adapt to changing patterns of need within the healthcare workforce, ensuring practitioners and organisations receive the right support at the right time.
