Patient safety in primary care remote consultations: video now available

Date published:

On 27 March 2024, NHS Resolution held a virtual forum on the recently published University of Oxford collaborative research conducted by Dr Rebecca Payne and Professor Greenhalgh into the safety of remote consultations.

The primary focus of this forum was to share the findings and recommendations from the analysis of multiple sources of patient safety intelligence including claims and incidents data held by NHS Resolution, complaints received by NHS England and cases managed by Health Science Safety Investigation Bureau (HSSIB).

We were also joined by expert speakers from BrisDoc (Out of hours). Attendees appreciated that “the seminar was delivered in real language discussing how real events occur.” Also, how much they valued that the practical advice that was transferrable to professionals other than GP e.g. for palliative care in community where there are situations where remote consultations could be better integrated, in order to see more patients over a large geographical area.

The recording for the session is available for you to watch on our dedicated virtual forum on patient safety in primary care remote consultations along with the presentation slides.

Our second strategic priority is to share data and insights as a catalyst for improvement. Our virtual forums each look at a unique topic from the perspective of sharing our claims data to derive usable insights that benefit patients and the healthcare and justice systems.

The recordings of our recent programme of primary care focused virtual forums are available on our website.
