NHS Resolution is delighted to announce that Professor Dame Lesley Regan [pictured above, left] and Janice Barber [pictured above, right] have been appointed as Non-Executive Directors. The appointments have been made by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care today.
Professor Lesley Regan is a globally renowned expert on gynaecology and best-selling author on pregnancy and miscarriage. She is professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at Imperial College’s St Mary’s Hospital Campus. Formerly president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), Professor Regan was awarded a DBE for services to women’s health in the 2020 New Year’s Honours List.
Janice Barber is a clinical negligence expert who has 40 years’ experience as a solicitor specialising in NHS law. She has advised the Government, NHS bodies and Royal Colleges, as well as high-profile Inquiries such as Mid-Staffordshire and Shipman. Janice is a Trustee at the Tropical Health & Education Trust (THET), an international charity which trains health workers to ensure everybody has access to affordable and quality healthcare. She is also a Trustee of the National Enquiry Into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) which undertakes in-depth reviews into clinical practice, publishing reports designed to improve patient care.
I am very pleased that Lesley and Janice are joining us as non-executive directors. Their breadth of expertise and insights will further enable NHS Resolution to adapt and respond to the changing needs in the NHS around patient safety.

Professor Keith Edmonds stands down from the board of NHS Resolution as a non-executive director at the end of an extended second term, having originally been appointed in 2015.
“I would also like to thank Keith for his contributions while serving on the board as a non-executive, in particular for his guidance on maternity safety,” added Martin Thomas.
In addition to the Board appointments, NHS Resolution has appointed Anu Ralhan [pictured above] as an independent member of NHS Resolution’s Reserving and Pricing Committee (RPC). The RPC is a sub-committee of the NHS Resolution Board.
Anu is a senior technical specialist at the Bank of England and has over 20 years’ experience working as an actuary.
As the independent actuarial professional Anu provide support and challenge to NHS Resolution’s Reserving and Pricing Committee, in its work on financial planning and methodologies for the indemnity schemes managed by NHS Resolution on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
I am delighted to welcome Anu to NHS Resolution as an independent member of the Reserving and Pricing Committee. His expertise will be invaluable in providing an independent perspective on our work to manage indemnity schemes for the NHS in England.

Janice Barber has been appointed for two years from 18 January 2022 and Professor Dame Lesley Regan has been appointed for three years from 6 December 2021.
The appointments will involve a time commitment of around two to three days per month. Lesley and Janice will receive a remuneration of £7,883 per annum.
These appointments are made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this Code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. These appointments are made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the Code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Janice Barber and Professor Regan have not declared any political activity.
On 6 December 2021, Professor Keith Edmonds stood down from his position on the board of NHS Resolution where he was a non-executive director between April 2015 and September 2021 and an associate non-executive director between October 2021 and his stepping down.
