INvolve has just published its annual list of OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Models for 2020 – and we’re delighted to announce the inclusion of Director of Membership and Stakeholder Engagement, Ian Adams.
INvolve is a consultancy and global network championing diversity and inclusion in business. Through the delivery of events, programmes, thought leadership and advisory services, INvolve helps firms drive cultural change and create inclusive workplaces.
The OUTstanding Role Model list is published annually to recognise and celebrate business leaders and future leaders who are breaking down barriers at work and inspiring the next generation of diverse talent.
Within his role at NHS Resolution, Ian has used his personal experience to champion the development of the organisation’s new equality, diversity and inclusion strategy in 2020. He’s also acted as a senior ally on NHS Resolution’s new BAME staff network launched last year. The network has been a huge success so far, with a third of all NHS Resolution staff attending the network launch last summer.
Ian also offered a really valuable contribution to NHS Resolution’s internal newsletter, This Week, following the tragic killing of George Floyd in the USA last May, drawing historic parallels with the struggles faced by the LGBT+ community in relation to police brutality during the Stonewall riots of 1969.
Within the wider NHS, Ian recently represented NHS Resolution on a cross-organisational BAME group, sharing his experience as a gay man and NHS leader to encourage others to share their own experiences of working within the NHS.
Outside of work, Ian plays an active role in championing LGBT+ work across the wider community, having taken on the role of LGBT+ Lead Member for Westminster City Council for the past two years. Through this role, Ian founded Soho Angels, a group of volunteers trained by the LGBT Foundation to improve safety on the streets of Soho on weekend evenings. Ian also helped to set up Westminster City Council’s LGBT+ Staff Network and provides direct support to the council’s borough-wide LGBT+ Forum.
