NHS Resolution is pleased to announce the appointment of a new chair to our Board, Martin Thomas. Martin is an experienced chair and non-executive director in the health and charity sectors, and will bring a wealth of experience to the role. Before joining NHS Resolution, Martin served as Vice-Chair of the Medical Protection Society.
Martin replaces Ian Dilks OBE, whose tenure came to an end on 31st December 2020 after over six years at NHS Resolution. Martin started his three year term on 1 January 2021.

During the current period of significant challenge for the entire health and social care system, it is a critical time to take on the chair’s post in an organisation which plays an invaluable role in supporting the delivery of healthcare. I look forward to working with NHS Resolution’s staff, and partners across the health and justice systems to make a positive difference to patients, their families and healthcare staff”

Martin has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance and financial services sectors including roles at the Bank of England, the European Commission and the European Central Bank. Martin currently holds a number of charitable roles. He is a trustee and founder of ‘Downside Up’ which provides support and advice for families raising children with Down syndrome in Russia. He also serves as Chair of Trustees for Women for Women International UK which helps women survivors of war rebuild their lives.
The appointment will involve a time commitment of around two to three days per week[1]. Martin will receive a remuneration of £63,000 per annum and has no declared political activity.

The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. The appointment is made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. Martin was previously vice-chairman of the Medical Protection Society and stepped down from the role before taking up this post.
