NHS Resolution has welcomed two new members to the Board who will play a key role in delivering its ambitious plans.
From establishing and administering the general practice indemnity scheme due in April 2019, to shifting compensation claims out of the courtroom and into the mediation room, NHS Resolution continues to work in partnership with trust members, the Government, the wider healthcare sector, and the legal systems.
Sir Sam Everington and Nigel Trout join the Board as Associate Non-executive Director and Non-executive Director, respectively, to support these key areas of work.
Sir Sam is a distinguished doctor who was knighted for his services to primary care in 2015, having earlier received an OBE for his services to inner city primary care in 1999. He originally qualified as a barrister before retraining as a doctor. He is a GP in east London and chair of NHS Tower Hamlets Clinical Commissioning Group. His knowledge of and standing in primary care will be invaluable in the development of a new general practice indemnity scheme.
Nigel recently retired from HSBC after spending more than 35 years in the banking and consultancy industries where he worked in a number of roles including branch banking, operations, finance, IT and change management, which is Nigel’s specialism. Nigel is Chairman of Create Development, a company specialising in sports education for primary aged children. His experience of managing change and new technologies will support our internal changes and fit for purpose ambitions.

Their appointments reflect NHS Resolution’s commitment to turning our strategic thinking into action, and finding new and creative ways to achieve our ambitions as we work towards delivering our strategy, which is focused on prevention, learning and early intervention to address the rising costs of harm in the NHS.”
Both appointments commence from 1 July 2018 for three years.
In addition to the Board appointments, NHS Resolution has also appointed two External Members to its Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) chaired by Charlotte Moar in recognition of the key role the organisation has in administering large sums of NHS funds and the increasing complexity of the environment it operates in. Charles Bellringer and Julia Wortley will also join with effect from 1 July 2018 and have been appointed for a term of two years.
Charles works as an Executive Coach and Senior Business Advisor for a number of clients providing advice and guidance on corporate strategy, focused on business transformation and the optimisation of operations. He is an experienced Chief Finance Officer having worked for several blue-chip companies including in the insurance industry.
Julia has spent the last 30 years working in law enforcement, with senior roles within the Metropolitan Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary, and more recently as a Deputy Chief Constable for Essex Police and the 7 Force Strategic Collaboration Programme. During her career, she has been involved in overseeing significant change in a complex public sector environment.
