Dr Sally Pearson, Responsible Officer

Dr Sally PearsonSally is the Responsible Officer and HPAN Lead for NHS Resolution. She took on this role in 2018 with over 20 years of Board level experience in the NHS as Director of Public Health in Gloucestershire Health Authority, and as Director of Clinical Strategy in Gloucestershire Hospitals NHSFT.

From 2018 to 2024 she chaired the South West Clinical Senate, which provides clinical advice to NHS England on all significant service change proposals in the South West of England. As a Director, Sally was committed to clinical quality improvement and developing governance structures that celebrate and support improvement. She was instrumental in the development of the research networks in both Gloucestershire and the South West and was Director of the Gloucestershire Research Development and Support Unit for 15 years.

Sally has been involved with the Practitioner Performance Advice Service since its inception in 2002, initially as an adviser and then as an education associate. She has significant experience of handling professional performance concerns in primary and secondary care with a clear understanding of the contribution of personal and contextual factors and the legal, professional and ethical frameworks in which health professionals practise. She has experience as both a case manager and a case investigator where concerns have been raised relating to the performance of senior doctors and has provided mentoring and support to doctors in difficulty.

Sally has a particular interest in helping clinical leaders effectively discharge their responsibilities with compassion.  She has mentored many colleagues and is an appraiser for NHSE South West, providing appraisal for responsible officers and medical directors.

Over her career Sally has modelled how specialist expertise in public health can enrich roles across the health and social care system in England. She is a longstanding Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and in the past has been the Assistant Registrar for the Faculty, chairing the People in UK Public Health Group through the Covid-19 pandemic. Sally is the Chair of Trustees of Longfield, a community hospice in Gloucestershire.
